Antenatal-Baby-Children CLUB, Weekly Health Visiting & Play Sessions

The Children’s Centre team host a weekly event for families on a Wednesday morning in partnership with the Health Visiting team. Families are welcomed along to these sessions to meet new friends, access professional support, to have their babies weighed and measured. Additional Health Support sessions are also offered throughout the year on topics such as breastfeeding, weaning, healthy eating, baby massage and dental care.  With informative and professional support, play sessions and drop-in sessions there is something for everyone.

Soft Play

Soft Play sessions are offered regularly and are popular with all ages of children. We all know how important physical play is for developing our muscle control, sense of spatial awareness and for learning how our bodies can work. The soft play equipment provides babies and toddlers with a safe and controlled environment to develop all of the above. Individuals can physically challenge themselves on the soft play and experience how it feels to take risks.

Stay & Play Sessions

Regular stay and play sessions are delivered across the Islands, offering many opportunities to partake in physical, creative and imaginative play. Both children and adults can benefit from these wonderful sessions, as they can meet up and make new friends, learn new skills, get involved in many new experiences and enjoy having lots and lots of fun.  These  are led by a member of the Children’s Centre team and are advertised well in advance so families are aware of what is on.

Parent & Toddler

The Children's Centre hosts weekly drop-in Parent & Toddler sessions which provide a friendly meeting place for parents and carers and plenty of room to play with all the toys from the Toy Library.  Currently sessions are held every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 9am to 12pm in the Main Hall at the Children’s Centre.

Parent Workshops

A range of workshops take place within the Children's Centre aimed at parents, carers and extended family. Workshops are organised with a view to adults learning about specific topic areas, meeting with professionals from the mainland and enjoying being in a group situation with other adults who have similar interests.

Storytime at the Library

Regular monthly Storytime sessions are held at St. Mary's Library these are led by a member of the Children's Centre team.  During the session a story is read, songs sung and an activity to accompany the story topic is offered.  A great session to build on children's experiences of books and to encourage families to visit the local library.

Active Scilly Splash Tots

Active Scilly Splash Tots is run by the Active Scilly team at St. Mary's Normandy swimming pool.  Babies and toddlers accompanied by an adult can enjoy the wonders of the water and begin to develop an understanding of the importance of water safety, making rapid progress with their swimming skills and abilities.

Toy & Resource Library

Children learn through play and regular borrowing of different toys encourages exploration and development of new skills. The Toy & Resource Library offers children and families the opportunity to borrow a range of toys and resources.

The toy library is located at Carn Thomas Children's Centre and is generally open Monday to Friday between 09.00 and 16.30. There is an advance booking system for nursery equipment, please contact Children's Services Team.
