Paula's Pilates

It's  not easy to find a "pocket money" job you actually really enjoy! I started to attend Pilates classes on St Mary’s when, having hurt my back, it was recommended to me by the hospital physiotherapist. I really enjoyed the classes and found them to be extremely beneficial, leaving me pain free in a matter of weeks. When the islands’ pilates teacher moved to the mainland it created not only a huge void but also an opportunity.

"Having found a distance-learning course, which would not interfere with my full time day job, I approached Lifelong Learning to enquire if they might be able to help in any way. They were extremely helpful and, after a simple application process, I was fortunate enough to have 50% of my training costs paid through the Skills for Business Programme. This was a huge help and certainly made the decision to undertake this training easier!

"Having successfully completed 2 Diplomas, 1 in Anatomy and Physiology and 1 in Pilates and having passed a practical assessment day on the mainland, I am now a qualified Pilates Instructor. My classes began in August and initial interest has been overwhelming, giving me three fully-booked classes per week and quite a waiting list!"
