New on-island mental health service for Scilly

The health and social care team on the Isles of Scilly are delighted to welcome a new member of staff to the fold – Jenny Candy – a Senior Mental Health Nurse/Community Psychiatric Nurse.

The post has been jointly commissioned by the Council and NHS, hosted by Cornwall Partnership Foundation Trust working in partnership with Outlook South West, and funded for a two year period from Better Care Fund pooled resources which aim to improve health outcomes and reduce admission to acute services.

The commissioners worked with local people to specify the post and we would like to thank the courage, honesty and generosity of those involved in describing their experiences to the team. The commissioners, providers and Healthwatch have been working for a long time to secure this service and are delighted to see things come to fruition.

Jenny will work with colleagues in the health centre, hospital, social care, police and ambulance service, along with key employers to improve the emotional wellbeing of individuals and organisations. She will be working with adults with a range of wellbeing concerns ranging from dementia to anxiety to depression. She will liaise with and signpost to other specialist mental health services as well as providing therapeutic services herself to enhance what is already in place.

She will be running clinics based in the health centre – you can be referred by your GP or make an appointment yourself.
