Waste site acceptance update

IMPORTANT CUSTOMER NOTICE

CHANGES TO WASTE ACCEPTANCE & SITE ACCESS

We are making changes to waste acceptance and access at the Porthmellon Waste Site due to very limited space available for site operations. These changes are necessary to accommodate the ongoing redevelopment of the site as well as the need to store waste prior to it being shipped to the mainland.

In order to ensure the safe operation of the site, we ask that residents and commercial waste customers take note of the following changes in operating and acceptance procedures:

  • Only 1 vehicle will be permitted on site at any given time. Please consider the size of your vehicle. There will be limited turning capacity and it is likely that all vehicles will need to reverse off site.

  • Please listen to the Waste & Recycling Operatives on site as they will advise you on where to drive and place materials for segregating.

  • If you have a large and unavoidable load of waste that requires disposal, please call one of the phone numbers below and notify us at least 1 week prior to delivery so that we can arrange for its disposal. If you do not inform us in advance, you may be turned away from the site.

  • Please consider whether you can hold onto the waste materials a little longer. The less waste we have to deal with, the less pressure there will be on our already stretched operations.

  • For all commercial green waste, please call one of the phone numbers below to request 1 tonne sacks to store your material in. The sacks will need to be collected from the waste site office. If you have a large amount of waste to dispose of, please notify us at least 1 week in advance of delivery.

    Contact numbers:

    01720 424013 (Waste Site Office)

    01720 424225 (Senior Officer: Maintenance & Repair)

    07825 114281 (Waste Site Supervisor)

    01720 424316 (Infrastructure Department)

IMPORTANT: we take the health and safety of our staff and visitors to the site very seriously. Should conditions caused by limited space lead to an unsafe operating environment, the Council will close the site to both commercial and residential customers until we are satisfied that nobody will be put at risk.

Waste collections will continue as normal.

If you have any queries please contact the Infrastructure department on 01720 424316 or email infrastructure@scilly.gov.uk. Thank you for your cooperation and patience on these matters.
