Children's Social Work Lead

DO YOU WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THE LIVES OF CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES?

As a qualified and experienced Children’s Social Worker, you will support the People and Communities Directorate on the Isles of Scilly, to ensure the delivery of an integrated, evidence-based service that promotes the welfare of the community and protects the vulnerable from harm. You will excel in this small supportive team if you are a can-do and collaborative team-player with outstanding communication skills. You will have significant experience of working with children requiring help and protection across the continuum of need and working knowledge of strengths-based practice and Signs of Safety.

This role acts as our Local Authority Principal Children’s Social Worker and dedicated Social Worker for special education needs and/or disability.  It will play a critical role in an integrated and collaborative partnership which has a commitment to provide quality services on a preventative basis, with a focus on building strong relationships with children and their families.

Our multi-agency, early help approach to supporting children, young people and their wider families is something that we are immensely proud of.  We have much to do following our ‘inadequate’ judgement by Ofsted in July 2023 and therefore are seeking a dynamic and ambitious social worker keeping children at the heart of everything they do within their practice.  You will be joining a supportive, forward thinking and highly motivated team.

You will be expected to hold a case load and supervise staff across a wide variety of support levels and thresholds including Early Help, assessing and supporting children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities, Children in Need, Child Protection cases and Looked After Children when required.

You will have skills and expertise in communicating with all children, including children with special education needs and or a disability, putting them at the heart of all that we do.   You will have excellent assessment, written and analytic skills with sound knowledge of child development, particularly with respect to the needs and identifying support for a child with special education needs or disability.

You will be able to work in partnership with children and young people, parents and carers, education, health, police and other agencies/professionals supporting children and young people to provide positives outcomes for children, young people and their families.

As such you will have a thorough and up to date understanding of the legislative, procedural and   research base underpinning social work with children and families.
