The Council of the Isles of Scilly is looking for an experienced and motivated professional to lead our democratic and corporate function while driving openness, transparency, and strong communications across the Council.

About the Role

As Head of Policy, Communications & Democratic Services, you’ll play a key role in shaping the Council’s strategy and governance, ensuring we deliver excellent services for the community on the Isles of Scilly. You’ll be at the heart of decision-making, advising senior leaders, supporting your team, and ensuring effective communication both inside and outside the organisation.

This is a high-profile, influential role, and as such would attract an individual with the requisite experience who can take responsibility for:

  • Leading the Council’s corporate scrutiny, performance, and governance functions
  • Supporting the Monitoring Officer on governance matters
  • Overseeing internal and external communications to ensure transparency and engagement.
  • Providing expert advice on policy development and strategy
  • Acting as the Council’s Senior Information Risk Owner and supporting the Data Protection Officer

  • A proven leader with experience in corporate communications and governance
  • Skilled at influencing and engaging stakeholders at all levels
  • Confident in providing strategic advice and constructive challenge to senior leaders
  • Experienced in developing policies, managing performance, and leading change
  • Knowledgeable about legislation and best practices within local government
