Sew ’n’ Learn

Course description: 

A practical sewing course for complete beginners or those with some experience.  The course content will be learner-driven, and will include the basics of sewing, including altering and mending garments, and to make a simple garment or household item. The course will cover all aspects, including choice of equipment, measuring, types of fabrics and their uses and much more.

Advice will be given on choice of fabric and pattern for garments to be made.

There is a possibility of breaking for half term.

Learning Objectives: 

 

1. To learn to sew with specific objectives in mind, in an informative and fun environment. 

2. To gain confidence by carrying out learner-driven tasks, and to understand what materials and equipment are necessary for different tasks.

3. To learn how to access materials and information using the internet

4. To use the skills learnt on the course to be able to continue creative sewing independently after the end of the course

5. To be able to progress to a more advanced course at a later date.

Equipment to bring: 
Bring any clothes or household items you would like to mend or alter, or have in mind what you would like to make from scratch. If you already have some fabric, bring this and see what it would be suitable for. You will need a pair of sharp scissors, a
Lunch/refreshments: 
Tea and coffee available throughout the class.
Assessment: 
Your tutor will explain your learning objectives and monitor your progress throughout the course.
Homework: 
If you want to make a garment you will need to work at home as instructed between classes. It is also desirable that you practice what you have learnt between classes. Feedback will be given during the next class
Additional costs: 
You will need fabric and thread plus any other items needed for your garment. Items such as zips, buttons and various haberdashery items may be needed. Advice on this will be given throughout the course. If you do not have the items to bring to the class,
