Highways

The Council of the Isles of Scilly is currently preparing a Highways Asset Management Plan, which will be published soon.

The following pages provide more information on some of our duties as the Highway Authority, such as street lighting and road maintenance. We also have applications forms available to download, which you will need if you would like to carry out any work affecting the highway or access to the highway.

In the event of an emergency affecting your property, such as storm damage, our operatives may have to install signage and/or barriers outside of your property to cordon off the adjacent Highway for the safety of its users.

As per the published fees and charges on the Council’s website, a rate of £25 per day (£175 per week) will be made to you for the equipment’s use/hire until you have resolved the safety issue or made other arrangements to cordon off the area.

It will be your responsibility to notify us that you no longer require the equipment and that the area of Highway adjacent to your property is safe for all users.

If you require any further information relating to the highways on St Mary's, please contact environment@scilly.gov.uk
