Living Well Day 16th September

Islanders will get the chance to meet with a variety of health and wellbeing professionals on Tuesday 16th September as Scilly hosts the 2014 Living Well Day.

Based in and around the Wellbeing Centre at Carn Gwaval, mainland and local based experts will be on hand to offer free advice and guidance as well as some taster exercise activities designed to encourage active living.   All age ranges are being catered for with the Children’s Centre and Memory Cafe arranging special sessions to encourage participation.  Visitors can expect to speak to professionals about the following topics –

  • Smoking cessation

  • Fuel Poverty

  • Hearing Loss

  • Drug and Alcohol Misuse

  • Financial and Legal Support

  • Weight Management

  • Metal Health

  • Fostering and Adoption

  • Domestic Abuse

  • Careers Advice

Advice will be on hand from 10am until 7pm although not all agencies are able to stay for the whole day.  Organisers suggest you get in touch to check availability if you’re keen to meet with a particular service.

The Living Well approach is designed to be holistic and look at the wider determinants of health and wellbeing with the aim of reducing the pressure on more acute health and social care resources. Living Well is also about supporting people to live the lives they want by boosting community cohesion and building links between the voluntary and statutory sector.
