Zachary Hick the elected Member of the UK Youth Parliament (MYP) and Loveday Lewin Deputy Member of Youth Parliament for the Isles of Scilly are taking part in the annual Make Your Mark ballot, the largest consultation of young people in the country.
Young people across the country will be asked what issues matter most to them, in order to determine what is debated by the UK Youth Parliament in the House of Commons on 11 November 2016.
Ten topics will be available to choose from on the initial Make Your Mark ballot paper, with the 5 most popular topics going on to be discussed by MYPs in their November debate, chaired by the Speaker of the House of Commons Rt. Hon. John Bercow MP and broadcast live on BBC Parliament. Thirteen year old Zachary will be attending and having the prestigious opportunity to take his seat on the Green Benches representing Scilly.
Last year, the Make Your Mark ballot surveyed the opinions of over 970,000 young people, making it the largest youth consultation of its kind in the UK. The campaign on Scilly which is supported by the Council’s Children’s Services Department, is taking place this week in the Five Islands School with students casting their ballots by Friday 23 September. Fourteen year old Loveday said: “Make Your Mark is such an important campaign for young people across the country who don’t always get a voice on issues that really matter to them. To have your say in such a large scale movement empowers young people to make a difference.”
