The Local Government Boundary Commission for England have undertaken a review of the electoral arrangements of the Council of the Isles of Scilly. They have produced draft recommendations which propose that the council should have 16 councillors in future, with 1 representing each of the off-islands and 12 representing St Mary’s. This is 5 fewer than the existing arrangements. Currently 18 of the 21 available seats are filled.
The Commission is asking for local people to comment on its proposals as part of an eight-week public consultation on the recommendations that begins today and ends on 25 November 2016.
