The Council of the Isles of Scilly has confirmed the appointment of its Interim Chief Executive, Mark Boden.
In a distinguished local government career spanning 38 years, Mark began work as a solicitor and has held senior positions including Chief Executive of Kennet District Council, Corporate Director of Wiltshire Council and, most recently, Chief Executive of Shetland Islands Council.
Chairman of Council, Robert Francis, said: “It was an easy decision to appoint Mark. His experience running an authority on Shetland makes him a perfect fit for Scilly and his extensive local government experience and legal expertise will be a huge asset during this transition period.”
“Mark has been fundamental in stabilising a difficult financial situation in Shetland and has much experience in transport and tourism. He is respected for guiding and empowering his staff, whilst clearly focusing on the needs of the community.”
Mark Boden, Interim Chief Executive, said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to come and work for the Council of the Isles of Scilly. As with all councils it faces many challenges but it has potential opportunities and great strengths, not least its strong team of councillors and staff. Naturally I am also looking forward to the opportunity to work in and get to know the beautiful Isles of Scilly.”
The interim appointment will commence on 25 February 2019, for an initial period of 3 months and then reviewed on a monthly basis until a permanent appointment is made.
