We’re delighted to announce that a childcare provider has been identified to run the new nursery facility at Carn Gwaval Wellbeing Centre. Following a competitive process, Anna Wild, Manager of new venture ‘Cherry Blossom Childcare’, has been successful in her application to provide additional capacity for the islands from the Carn Gwaval site.
Anna, well known to families due to her early years leadership at Five Islands Academy, is currently registering the business and will be in touch with families about an opening date in the coming weeks. Anna commented: “This is such an exciting opportunity to expand the early years provision on the islands. I am very much looking forward to working alongside the talented team of early years foundation stage providers to develop a comprehensive 0-12 setting for our families. I can't wait to get started!”
The new nursery building is funded through a successful capital bid to the Department of Education by the Council of the Isles of Scilly which also included the refitting of the school’s ‘Dinghies class’ to meet the new 3 and 4 year old nursery offer. It is an important element in supporting working families across the islands with reliable childcare provision.
Cllr Joel Williams, Lead Member for Children, commented: “We are delighted that Scilly now has another high quality childcare offer that will enable the best possible start in children’s lives. The new provider will work with families and the community to provide a range of childcare options including holiday clubs, wrap around sessions as well as the 2, 3 and 4 year old nursery offer. The provision will be inclusive to enable every single child to flourish. This is a fantastic addition to the high quality provision on the islands from Five Islands Academy and our childminders.”
