Guidance on Waste with Possible Coronavirus Infection
Personal waste (such as used tissues, disposable cleaning cloths and any personal protective equipment including gloves and face masks) can be stored securely within disposable rubbish bags, which should be placed into another bag, tied securely and kept separate from other waste. This should be put aside for at least 72 hours before being put in your usual external waste bin. Other waste can be disposed of as normal. Please ensure that all potentially infected waste is put in your residual waste bin and not with your recycling.
We strongly advise that you clearly label any waste which is not to be collected and is in quarantine. This is to protect our collection crews and the essential waste collection service we provide for the community.
How do I Dispose of my Lateral Flow Test?
To dispose of your lateral flow test safely, place all the items from the test into the plastic packaging provided, this then needs to go into your general waste sack.
Accessing the Waste and Recycling Centre
All of our Waste & Recycling Sites across the islands are being managed following Government guidance on Managing Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs) in England during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Anyone who is symptomatic with coronavirus (COVID-19) or is self-isolating, must not visit under any circumstances.
Site staff will not be able to assist in unloading vehicles. You may be accompanied by person/s from your household.
Both householders and commercial businesses wanting to dispose of items at the St Marys Waste & Recycling Centre must book a 'slot' by either calling 01720 424400 or emailing zerowaste@scilly.gov.uk. All household items must be declared at time of booking. Anyone who turns up to site without first booking a slot will unfortunately be turned away. Payments may be required for the disposal of some Household Waste/Recycling
