The Environmental Health Team wishes to thank all residents/businesses and visitors for their participation in the PSPO consultation, which took place between January 2019 and March 2020. The questionnaire received a substantial response.
All the comments submitted presented an informative and invaluable insight to the dog fouling problem here on the Isles of Scilly and the often intense feeling generated by some of the issues raised. All the comments received will form a base for future planning and exploration of different initiatives, with the aim of improving our environment.
The majority of respondents welcomed the continuation of a new PSPO. A number of issues were highlighted and two were considered and addressed within the new proposals which were presented and approved by Full Council on 23 June 2020.
It was agreed that:
The seasonal exclusion of dogs on Old Town Beach be set within the times 9am-7pm, replacing the previous PSPO which enforced an all-day exclusion.
Holgate’s picnic area will now become a ‘dogs on leads’ zone.
The slipway on Porthcressa Beach has a permissible use for dog owners to access the ‘Dogs allowed zone' to the left of the designated exclusion area.
The Public Spaces Protection Order will commence on 1 July 2020. The full PSPO 2020 and a leaflet summarising the detail can be found at:
