A flag raising ceremony recognising the contribution of the armed forces took place this morning, in advance of Armed Forces Day on Saturday, 26 June.
The Council flies the Armed Forces Day flag for a week each year, as a mark of respect for the service of our fantastic Armed Forces community – regulars, reserves, veterans, cadets and their families.
The ceremony was attended by the Chairman and Vice Chairman of Council, the Methodist minister Reverend Michael Pullen and invited armed forces representatives. Both the Chairman of Council and the Methodist minister said a few words and a moment of quiet contemplation was observed.
Robert Francis, Chairman of Council said: "As always, I am honoured to have played a part in our community's recognition of the contribution made by our armed forces. Both on the islands and further afield, throughout history, brave men and women have made extraordinary sacrifices to preserve the freedoms and quality of life of others, and it is important to show our gratitude each year. I'm sure I speak for many in offering my heartfelt thanks to everyone who continues to work for the benefit of their communities."
