The Climate Adaptation Scilly project aims to help the islands adapt to the predicted effects of climate change, including sea level rise and water shortages.
As part of this project, we are preparing a Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan for the Isles of Scilly. The plan will set out the priorities for adaptation to climate change across the islands and we need input from the community at this early stage.
We’ve commissioned RSK Group, an engineering and environmental consultancy, to run a series of workshops and a drop-in session to discuss the expected impacts of climate change for the Isles of Scilly and what action the community thinks should be prioritised in the Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan.
All sessions are free to attend and open to all. Please see below for details.
Workshops
A total of 5 workshops have been scheduled between 10 and 12 May 2022, one on each of the islands, as detailed below:

These workshops are not island-specific, so you are welcome to attend any of them to provide your views. Each will begin with a 15-minute presentation from our consultants about the key climate risks which have been identified for the islands. Attendees will then be invited to split into small groups in order to discuss these identified risks and contribute their own perspectives on risk areas and potential solutions.
Drop-in session
An additional drop-in session, during which the community is invited simply to provide views and access further information will also take place as follows:

Funding Information
Climate Adaptation Scilly is a comprehensive package of climate change adaptation measures funded by the Environment Agency and the European Union intended to reduce the impact of the physical impacts of climate change on one of the most vulnerable parts of the United Kingdom. The key risks from sea level rise and reducing rainfall are being managed through coastal defence works against coastal flooding and erosion, and through installation of rainwater harvesting systems for businesses. A community strategy (the Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan) is being developed to help the islands adapt to ongoing changing climate conditions.
European Regional Development Fund
The project is receiving up to £2.2 M of funding from the England European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020. The Department for Communities and Local Government is the Managing Authority for ERDF.
