At the meeting of Full Council on 15 October, Councillors will consider for approval a draft of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) for public consultation for 6 weeks from November 2024. You can read the draft Strategy, view the Opportunity Map and read the report which explains the need for this consultation at the following link: https://committees.scilly.gov.uk/mgAi.aspx?id=18218
The strategy aims to guide delivery to support thriving wildlife across the Isles of Scilly. It has been developed in collaboration with the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Nature Partnership and the Isles of Scilly National Landscapes Partnership.
The draft priorities for nature have been created using views from public online surveys, in-person drop-ins held last October and workshops with key stakeholders and partners.
In order to help familiarise the community with the draft strategy and the proposals for action to be taken on the islands, those who have worked on the development of the strategy will be running a drop-in session prior to public consultation. They will also be on hand to talk about the new Marine Nature Recovery Framework (MNRF), which will align with and compliment the Local Nature Recovery Strategy, allowing for an integrated approach across land and sea. The aim is to create a blueprint for the recovery of our most special marine species and habitats below the low water mark.
