Post-16 Transport Policy Statement 2026/27
You can read our Post-16 Transport Policy Statement 2026/27 on our Children's Policies page. This Statement was approved at a meeting of Full Council on 29 May 2026 and will be implemented on 1 September 2026 for the 2026/27 academic year.
The public consultation on our Post-16 Transport Policy Statement 2026/27 ran from 28 April to 19 May 2026. You can read more about this consultation on our news page.
The Statement applies to young people who are resident[1] on the Isles of Scilly, ensuring they are able to continue in further education or training and are able to access information to help them to do so. It also provides information about local transport provision on the islands and in Cornwall to help young people and their families make travel arrangements.
The policy specifies the support that the Council of the Isles of Scilly considers necessary to facilitate the attendance of those of sixth form age and adult learners receiving education or training at:
- a school;
- a further education institution;
- a local authority maintained or assisted institution providing higher or further education;
- a 16 to 19 Academy; or
- at any establishment (not falling within the above categories) at which the authority secures the provision of education or training under section 15ZA of the Education Act 1996
Review process
The next review and consultation of the policy will be done in readiness for the next publication due by 31 May 2027.

The Council consulted on its draft Post-16 Transport Policy Statement 2025/26 between 31 January and 28 February 2025. Following consideration of the feedback provided, the Post-16 Transport Policy Statement was approved at Full Council on 24 March 2025, and came into immediate effect.

[1] Meaning habitually and normally resident and where the student has shared residence. Travel assistance will only be provided from one address to be agreed between the parents and where no agreement can be reached it will be deemed to be the home address of the parent who receives Child Benefit for the student (where applicable).
