Removal of Waste from St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly to a Suitable Waste Management Site

 

 

The Contract concerns the remove of municipal solid waste (EWC 20 03 01) in the form of ‘black bag’ waste and shredded bulky waste that has been mechanically treated (EWC 19 12 12), typical of that generated at a Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC). It is estimated that the Council generates around 400  tonnes of black bag waste/shredded waste which is to be removed from the Porthmellon Waste Management Site, St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly and this requires transportation to a suitable waste disposal, treatment or recovery site off the islands.

 

A contractor is being sought to undertake the following work elements:

  1. Load and containerise black bag waste/shredded waste in suitable containers at the Council waste facility at Porthmellon Waste Management Site, Moorwell, St Marys.

  2. Transport the containerised materials to the dock at St Marys or an alternative authorised location within St Marys.

  3. Loading from the dock and onward marine shipment, in accordance with current UK regulations, from St Marys to an appropriate authorised port.

  4. Offloading and onward transport to a suitable licensed waste management facility for the acceptance of the above waste and;

  5. Final disposal, recovery or treatment at a suitably licensed waste management facility.
