The Council does not currently provide a collection service for large bulky items. If you produce waste that cannot be included in normal household waste services provided by the Council, you will need to arrange your own collection privately at your own cost.
This might include:
- undertaking works in your own home using a tradesman (e.g. builder, gardener, carpet fitter) where larger volumes of waste are produced by the works
- clearing larger quantities of waste items from your home or garden, and hiring a skip for disposal
- disposing of waste items not included in household waste collections, such as motor vehicles or parts
Residents wishing to dispose of such items should either take the items themselves, by private vehicles, or contact a local haulier to collect and deliver the items to the Household Waste and Recycling Centre at Porthmellon. All costs incurred for the removal of such items will be the responsibility of the householder and not the Council. Please be aware that a commercial waste charge will apply if a haulier is used to carry and dispose of your household waste.
You are responsible for the waste you produce, you must take all reasonable steps to ensure you arrange safe disposal and comply with legal requirements.

Electrical Items (WEEE)
Since January 2003, fridges & freezers as well as other electrical items that come over the WEEE Directive have to be disposed of as special hazardous waste.
The Porthmellon Waste & Recycling Centre has facilities to receive hazardous electrical items including fridges and freezers. Residents must arrange for these items to be collected and taken to the site.
