Head of Adult Social Care

The Council of the Isles of Scilly is seeking a skilled and values-led leader to head its Adult Social Care service. This is a strategic and operational role within the Adults and Children's Directorate, offering the opportunity to shape high-quality, person-centred care in a close-knit island setting with the highest proportion of older residents in England.

You'll lead a small, dedicated team to deliver safe, effective, and personalised support, ensuring compliance with the Care Act and safeguarding frameworks. Working closely with the Director of Adults and Children (DASS/DCS), you'll oversee complex casework, service improvement, and multi-agency collaboration including the development of our new integrated care facility - with a strong focus on outcomes, dignity, and lived experience.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading adult social care delivery across the Isles of Scilly, including safeguarding, care planning, and service commissioning
  • Chairing safeguarding case conferences and Best Interest meetings
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory duties and embedding Making Safeguarding Personal principles
  • Overseeing CQC-registered services and supporting quality governance and improvement
  • Managing operational budgets and developing business cases to maximise resources
  • Representing the council in strategic forums, including the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Safeguarding Adults Board

We're looking for a candidate who:

  • Holds a qualification in Social Work and is registered with Social Work England
  • Has extensive experience in adult social care, including safeguarding and complex casework
  • Brings strong leadership, analytical, and decision-making skills
  • Is confident in multi-agency working and policy development
  • Can evidence a commitment to personalisation, inclusion, diversity, and continuous improvement
