Additional Recycling Bins on St Mary's

As part of the Council’s drive to improve waste management on the islands and ensure more glass is being reused rather than wasted, six additional recycling bins have been placed around St Mary’s.

Recycling bins are now available at Telegraph, the Atlantic Slipway, the Hospital and the rear of the public conveniences on The Strand. In addition, there are now four bins at the Town Hall recycling point and an extra bottle bin at Old Town.

Senior Manager for Infrastructure and Planning, Craig Dryden, said, ‘Our residents and visitors have shown great enthusiasm for reusing and recycling waste and we believe it is in everyone's interest to make the process as simple and convenient as possible’.

Chairman of the General Purposes committee, Councillor Steve Sims, added, ‘If you live in Hugh Town or Old Town it's relatively easy to drop your bottles in the bins provided, but for those living out of town it's significantly more difficult, especially for those without transport, hence the placement of bottle bins at Telegraph."
