Armistice Day 2024

An Act of Remembrance service to mark Armistice Day took place this morning at the War Memorial in Old Town Churchyard.

The service, jointly led by Reverend Elizabeth Burke, Chaplain to the Isles of Scilly and Methodist Minister, Reverend Carole Holmes, included a two-minute silence to remember all those who have given their lives in service to their country since 1914. Representatives from a range of organisations including the Council, school, emergency services, military and voluntary groups were in attendance, as well as members of the wider community.

The Council was also represented at the Service of Remembrance and Act of Remembrance which took place at St Mary’s Parish Church and the Town Park War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday (10 November 2024).

Further services and acts of remembrance were also held across the islands to enable as many people as possible to join together to honour the fallen and commemorate the signing of the Armistice which brought an end to the First World War.

Representatives from the Police, Council, Army cadets, Five Islands Academy, Methodist Church and Church of England gathered around the War Memorial in Old Town, St Mary's.
