The Chairman of the Council of the Isles of Scilly, Amanda Martin, was delighted to meet the Prime Minister earlier today at the launch of an improved rail service from Penzance. Upgrades to the ‘Riveria’ rail route will see substantial investment in the sleeper service between Penzance and London Paddington, allowing for development in economic growth to boost tourism for the Isles of Scilly and the Southwest. Investment will include improvements to signalling and improvements in the quality of the rolling stock delivering this service. This announcement corresponds to the ‘Transport for Scilly’s’ aims of improving and developing the Isles of Scilly integration into the wider transport network. The Authority is pleased that positive steps are being taken in dealing with this aspect of the Islands transport needs.
