Council launches scheme to help Scilly’s businesses reduce energy costs and carbon emissions

The Council of the Isles of Scilly is committed, as part of the Smart Islands programme, to support local businesses with their ambitions to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions.

We have successfully secured funding from the central government Local Growth Fund (administered by the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership) to support local small to medium sized enterprises with up to 60% funding support towards capital spend on renewable energy and energy efficiency measures.

These measures may include installation of solar photovoltaic or thermal panels, energy efficiency measures including LED lighting and insulation, air or ground source heat pumps and battery systems for energy storage.

Councillor Lady Marian Berkeley, Lead Member for Smart Islands, said: “these are exciting opportunities for local businesses to achieve significant reductions in their energy bills and also reduce their carbon emissions. We welcome the award of funding for significant projects and look forward to supporting local businesses with these works.”

Applications for funding are now open and further information of the BEES (Business Energy Efficiency Scheme) is available on our BEES webpage or via email to bees@scilly.gov.uk.
