Highway works planned for Trench Lane and Old Town Road

We will be carrying out work to sections of the highway at Old Town Road and the entrance to Trench Lane to address an issue with the level of the road and ensure it aligns with recently installed flood defence infrastructure.

Work to the highway at both of these locations will commence in the week of 1 July 2024. Once complete, the re-profiled Highway tarmac levels at both locations will align with the flood defence infrastructure, allowing all traffic types to cross smoothly. There will be some disruption as the works will require both roads to be partially closed.

This work is necessary because it will allow for the completion of the installation of demountable sea defences identified in the Climate Adaptation Scilly programme. This project has delivered important sea-defence works across the Isles of Scilly, helping to protect the island’s infrastructure against flooding from rising sea-levels and to help limit the impacts of coastal erosion.

We would like to thank all residents who have contacted us regarding their concerns about the sea-defence work in Old Town. We aim to keep disruption to a minimum and thank you for your patience as this work is completed.

If you have any questions about the forthcoming works, please contact Environment Services at environment@scilly.gov.uk or call us on 01720 424450.
