You may remember that we recently asked residents to fill out an energy attitudes survey which will be used to draft a joint Local Area Energy Plan (LAEP) for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. This survey remains open until midnight on 15 October 2023 and can be completed on the ‘Let’s Talk Cornwall’ website. Thank you to everyone who has responded so far!
In support of the public consultation, we are now pleased to announce that a community roadshow event has been scheduled on the islands in order to provide our residents and businesses with more information about the LAEP, give them an opportunity to ask questions and understand how they can get involved in the development of the plan which will play a major role in establishing the region’s transition to net zero. Details of this event can be found below:
Date: Thursday, 21 September 2023
Time: 2-6pm
Venue: Wesleyan Chapel, St Mary’s
The event will be coordinated by Copper Consultancy, a specialist infrastructure communications organisation that helps people get involved in addressing the climate crisis.
For off-islanders wishing to attend this session, who may need support with the cost of travel to St Mary’s, please email environment@scilly.gov.uk
Following consultation with residents and businesses across the region to look at how energy is used, supplied and managed, our Council will work with Cornwall Council to identify and recommend required changes to local energy systems for heating, electricity, gas and transport to move the region’s energy system to net zero and secure affordable energy supplies over time.
Harry Legg, Lead Member for Environment, Environmental Services and Climate Change, said: “We're looking forward to engaging with islanders on our plans for a net zero future. The only way to achieve net zero is to bring people with us, so I encourage as many residents as possible to attend this roadshow event to ensure the voices of those living and working on the islands can be taken into account.”
