Making the Isles of Scilly a Dementia Friendly Community

Did you know that over 850,000 people in the UK have been diagnosed with dementia and that this number is rising as life expectancy increases? The Council of the Isles of Scilly, in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society and other local agencies, is keen to help Scilly become a Dementia Friendly Community:

A city, town, village or organisation within which people with dementia are understood, respected, supported, and confident they can contribute to community life.

To help achieve this we’d like to invite you, or a representative from your business or organisation, to attend a short workshop.

Date: Wednesday 20 January 2016
Venue: Wesleyan Chapel, St Mary's

The workshop is free of charge and you can choose from one of 3 times:

Session 1 1:15pm to 2.15pm
Session 2 2.30pm to 3.30pm
Session 3 5.45pm to 6.45pm

The aim of the workshop is to:

  • Increase your knowledge and understanding of dementia
  • Hear how your business/organisation could become more Dementia Friendly – having a positive effect on the reach of your service
  • Consider how as an organisation/community we can better support those who have or care for individuals with dementia

We very much hope you’ll be able to find time to participate in one of our workshops. If you need further information, please don't hesitate to contact Joel Williams, Senior Officer: Health and Wellbeing on (01720) 424880 or jwilliams@scilly.gov.uk.
