The coaster MV River Trader is due to arrive in St Mary’s on Monday 1st September between 1 pm and 3 pm weather and sea conditions permitting with a cargo of aggregates for the additional island road projects.
The offloading operations have been planned to commence as soon as the quay quietens down tomorrow Monday 1st September after the departure of the Scillonian at 4:30 pm (1630). We will commence bringing equipment through the town between this time and 5 pm (1700). The plant moving into position will be the wheeled excavator and tractors with empty trailers. Movement of loaded vehicles is expected to commence between 5:30 and 6:00 pm (1730 – 1800).
If we are unable to complete the off-loading in 1 night we will continue on Tuesday evening starting between 7 & 8 pm (19000 & 2000) as the landing craft Arromanches will berth at 4:30 pm (1630) to offload a cargo of bitumen boxes first. The bitumen will be hauled by the local carriers on their lorries.
The route for the tractors and trailers will be the same as on previous occasions and starts at the Quay, via Hugh Street, Church Street, the Old School, Telegraph Road, Parting Carn Farm and to the site. The return journey will be the same with the empty trailers passing along the Strand rather than Church Street.
On Monday evening we aim to operate 7 tractors and trailers which run in 3 pairs and one running singly whilst the bulk of the material is offloaded. Provided there are no mechanical or tide problems this sequence is likely to continue up to 2 am (Tuesday) 0200. Thereafter the numbers of tractors and trailers will decrease as the cargo in in the ship diminishes. Please note this time is approximate.
Lagan Construction Ltd sincerely apologises for any disturbance this essential operation causes and thanks you in advance for your continuing co-operation and forbearance.
