Notice to residents and visitors: staying safe at peak times

On Saturday we welcome back our first visitors of the season. It’s important that we all try to maintain social distancing as the number of people on the islands increases.

In order to assist with this, the Steamship Group and Harbour Master have worked hard to help get people on and off the Scillonian as quickly as possible, with visitors disembarking in groups. The quay will be kept free of vehicles and non-essential pedestrians to allow the free flow of visitors and everyone will be asked to meet and greet at their accommodation. The police will be on the quay monitoring the situation.

To ensure the quick disperal of crowds during busy times in Hugh Town, visitors are asked to:

  • Proceed directly to their accommodation.
  • Avoid the cash point and the Co-op, particularly after the arrival of the Scillonian.
  • Wear face coverings when using transport, when visiting the hospital and in enclosed spaces where social distancing is difficult.
  • Use a range of shopping opportunities, not just the Co-op, to ease pressure on the store.
  • Respect social distancing.
  • Use hand sanitiser on entering and leaving shops.

Residents are asked to:

  • Avoid parking on Hugh Street particularly between 12 and 1pm.
  • Pick quieter times to shop.
  • Older residents are encouraged to continue to use the first shopping hour of the day.
  • Respect social distancing.
  • Use hand sanitisers on entering and leaving shops.
  • Wear face coverings when using transport, when visiting the hospital and in enclosed spaces where social distancing is difficult.
