  • find out more about the role of our Transition Support Worker, who will be in attendance online; and
  • have a chance to ask any other Post-16 questions they may have.

At the meeting of Full Council on 29 June, Sue Butcher, Director of People, explained the outcomes of the public consultation on our Post-16 Transport Policy Statement 2026/27. She also described the work her service has been undertaking to strengthen support for young people and families facing the transition to the mainland to access mandatory education or training. You can read this report in full on our committee webpages and watch Sue’s presentation of her report on our YouTube channel (timestamp 21.08).

Cllr Joel Williams, Chairman of the Council of the Isles of Scilly and Lead Member for Children, said: “We are dedicated to improving both the support and options available to young people and their families when facing the transition from Five Islands Academy to post-16 education or training. I would like the community to view this meeting as an opportunity to help us in this aim. By working together, we can reassure our young people that everyone who has their best interests at heart is prepared to listen to them and act for them. Please come along if you are a young person who is unsure how to navigate this important phase of your life, or a parent wishing to support their child as best you can. Our officers will be able to direct you to sources of information and support, and answer any questions you may have.”
