Planned temporary road closures to improve flood defence installation on Old Town Road

[UPDATE 15/10/2024: to allow for the continuation of works to the sea defence infrastructure, there will be a further partial road closure to include the Trench Lane - Old Town Lane junction on Thursday 17 October 2024]

Please be aware that on Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 October there will be partial and complete road closures between Old Town Café and Dolphins on St Mary’s. A further partial closure will also include the Trench Lane - Old Town Lane junction on Thursday 17 October 2024.

In July, the Council undertook some works to sections of the highway at Old Town in order to address an issue with the flood defence infrastructure which had previously been installed. Following consultation with the contractor, the decision has now been taken to carry out remedial repairs to the ground works for the flood defences in order to improve their durability in the long term.

We will aim to keep disruption arising from these closures to a minimum whilst the works are undertaken and to complete them as swiftly as possible. However, we advise anyone planning to be in the area between Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 October to take an alternative route to their destination.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have any questions about the forthcoming works, please contact Environment Services at environment@scilly.gov.uk or call us on 01720 424450.
