Restructuring costs

The Authority would wish to reassure the Community that any costs incurred during recent re-shaping process were essential, proportionate, and within existing budgets.

Costs incurred by the Authority represent fees in supplying temporary staff to fulfil existing vacancies pending recruitment to full time roles as part of the re-shaping process between May 2014 and October 2014.    Without temporary staff the Authority would have been unable to undertake vital services to the Council and the Community or comply with its statutory obligations.

Essential vacancies were highlighted in the areas of Social Care, Finance and Human Resources, and the cost associated with filling these roles, pending completion of the re-shaping, was funded from vacancy savings identified for those posts and do not represent an overall additional cost to the Authority during the period.

A breakdown of the sums spent during this period is available on our website or from the Town Hall, in accordance with transparency and Freedom of Information obligations.

Attracting high quality staff to the Council is vital to the islands' continued success and development.  Having a positive climate around the islands’ helps and reduces the need to rely on temporary staff.
