A road closure application (reference HWA-24-01) has been approved for the area surrounding the Town Hall building from Monday 5 August 2024 until 30 June 2026. The closure is necessary for the construction of the site compound which will enable the development of the Isles of Scilly Cultural Centre and Museum.
Throughout this period, the eastern end of Silver Street will be closed to vehicles and the parking spaces behind the Town Hall will no longer be available. The road will be closed from the Town Hall annexe building to Ingram’s passage.
Although the road is closed, the footpath will remain open to pedestrians between Silver Street and Porthcressa Road.
Please note that in an effort to minimise potential disruption to the community during the summer months, the decision has been taken to delay the planned lane restriction to Church Street (which can be viewed on the application at the link above), until October 2024. This means that from 5 August until October, only the area marked in the photo below will be affected. We will issue a further update at the point it becomes necessary to put the Church Street lane restriction in place.
We ask that anyone planning to be in the areas affected by the closure pays close attention to the signage. If you have any queries in relation to the work, please contact the construction team Project Manager via email at IOSProject@stepnell.co.uk.
You can read our previous update on the project on our website. If you have any other questions about the project, or would like further information, please email IOSproject@scilly.gov.uk
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
