Roof works at St Mary’s Airport and Sports Hall

The Council has commissioned work to repair and refurbish the roof at St Mary’s Airport and carry out repairs to the roof at the Sports Hall. The works will involve:

  • Replacing the tiled roof on the original part of the airport building, which has been subject to leaks.
  • Removal of redundant chimney flue stacks and windcatchers on the airport roof, reducing future maintenance requirements.
  • Improvements to insulation in the airport’s ceilings, enhancing the thermal performance of the building and reducing our carbon emissions in line with the Council’s target of becoming a carbon neutral organisation by 2030.
  • Repairs to the Sports Hall roof at Carn Gwaval.

The work, to be carried out by Wright Construction Ltd, is due to begin on Monday, 9 January and is expected to be completed by the end of March 2023 (weather permitting). At the airport, the scaffolding, which will be in place for the duration of the work, is currently being erected. There should not be any impact on flights, passengers or day-to-day operations whilst the works are carried out, however small areas within the terminal will be cordoned off at times, so please be mindful of any related safety notices.

Thank you for your cooperation.
