Statement on Roads & Runways Project

The Council of the Isles of Scilly wishes to thank all residents and visitors for their continued patience, co-operation and understanding while the essential works on our roads and airport runways continue.

We fully appreciate the inconvenience these works may cause, particularly during the summer months when the islands are at their busiest.

The works at the airport have been funded by the European Regional Development Fund Programme for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. This is time limited funding and has meant the Council had to undertake the work now or lose the funding; the roads are dependent on the machinery and asphalt transported over to the islands for the runways resurfacing.

We can confirm that the airport runway resurfacing  project is almost complete. All runways are now resurfaced and the airport apron is 80% complete. The terminal will be complete in the Autumn.

On a final note we would like to pay tribute to the professionalism of Lagan Construction staff. They have worked tirelessly to ensure these essential works are completed with minimal disruption to island life and will bring many benefits to islanders and visitors for many years to come.
