Between November 2014 and February 2015, Defra consulted the Isles of Scilly community and stakeholders on proposals to apply national water and sewerage legislation to the Isles of Scilly. Subsequently, a working group was formed to ensure that key stakeholders were able to contribute to the process. This group includes representatives from Defra, Environment Agency, Drinking Water Inspectorate, OFWAT, Council of the Isles of Scilly, Duchy of Cornwall and Tresco Estate. It was also agreed that a Water and Sewerage Forum comprised of residents and business representatives as well as water and sewerage system operators would be formed to provide a sounding board for the working group as plans developed.
The inaugural meeting of the Water and Sewerage Forum took place on 7 October with representatives from across the islands, with Defra and the Environment Agency attending to provide an update. The Drinking Water Inspectorate also dialled in. This first meeting was an opportunity for introductions, an overview of the roles of each organisation and next steps, and also provided an opportunity for some general questions and answers. If you are interested in the role of the Working Group, Forum or the overall process in general then the slides from the meeting are available to view in the attached PDF.
The Working Group have also produced the attached update to keep the community informed. For any further information please contact Senior Officer: Infrastructure, Helen Pearce, at hpearce@scilly.gov.uk.
