Local response
As everyone who is familiar with the islands will be aware, conditions can change dramatically without much warning, and this can make the impacts of storm events around the islands difficult to predict. We ask you to read the warnings above, take any precautions necessary to protect your property in advance, and keep an eye on the forecast for any relevant changes.
As a precaution, the Council will be deploying sea defences at Porthcressa and Old Town. The road from Nowhere to Old Town Café will remain open for now, with only half of the boards in place, but our on-call operatives will monitor the situation and assess whether a temporary closure is necessary for tomorrow morning’s high tide. Operatives will keep in close contact with the Police, other emergency services and Five Islands Academy and we will update the community as soon as necessary tomorrow morning.
Anyone planning to be in the Old Town Bay area will need to pay attention to the signage and take additional care.
