Committee summary: Transport, Economic Development and Infrastructure

Did you miss the last Transport, Economic Development and Infrastructure (TEDI) meeting? Here are some key points from the meeting held on Tuesday, 20 October 2015.

  • The Porthmellon Enterprise Centre is now up and running. Members ratified the list of fees and charges and the first tenants are to move in on 1 November 2015.

  • Members decided to back an application for flood defence grant money. Several projects across the islands have already been identified. Why not have a look for yourself and see what might (fingers crossed) be happening?

  • You might see a couple of big deliveries for the Council in the coming weeks, with purchases agreed for a refuse-collection vehicle, and a fire appliance for the airport.

  • Airport passenger numbers are up on last year, and so is income. The Council hopes to maintain increased numbers for the remainder of its lease on the airport.

  • Members agreed to review the existing road traffic orders in effect on the islands and try to rationalise them into one simple, manageable order. A draft is being worked on and will be presented to Council in December.

  • A government consultation asked every Fire Authority to consider if it wished to continue as a Fire Authority, or abdicate the responsibility to the Police and Crime Commissioner. Members, at this point, decided to respond to the consultation with the opinion that they would prefer to dispense with the responsibility. They were assured that the service would not diminish, and that all financial and legal risks would no longer be within the Council portfolio.
