The Microchipping of Dogs (England) Regulations 2015
From 6 April 2016, all dogs must be microchipped and registered to an approved database by the time they are 8 weeks old. It is an offence not to do so.
For every dog that is currently not microchipped, the owner will have until 6 April to get the dog microchipped and registered on an approved database.
Microchipping is an effective and secure way of permanently identifying a pet ensuring that your dog is returned to you quickly should it go missing or be stolen.
The microchip is a small electronic device (about the size of grain of rice) which is implanted into the dog's skin. The microchip contains a unique number which can be read with a microchip reader.
Should you require your dog to be microchipped before the commencement of this legislation you can contact the local veterinary surgeon, Heike Dorn, on 01720 423667 who can advise on the microchipping process.
