In October 2021, the Council secured £48.4m towards the cost of replacing vessels and associated harbour improvements to safeguard the long-term future of Scilly’s lifeline sea links. This funding was allocated by government from the Levelling Up Fund.
Councillors approved the submission of a full business case to government at the meeting of Council on 12 April. Following this approval, the Department for Transport have been evaluating the full business case informally and the Council has been responding to their points. The final full business case was submitted to the Department for Transport on 19 June.
In advance of final funding confirmation from government, the Council and its delivery partners are continuing to work on the project to ensure the current programme remains achievable. This will see all vessels in service by the revised date of 31 March 2025.
