Planning Decisions and Transparency

Why we are publishing this information

The Council has updated its Planning Protocol (new link to follow after Full Council) in response to national consultations on the reform of planning committees. This helps ensure decisions are made efficiently while maintaining democratic oversight where it is needed.

These reforms propose a national scheme of delegation, with most applications being determined under delegated powers, with Members focusing on significant or complex cases.

The aim is to improve consistency, efficiency and transparency in decision-making, while ensuring that applications requiring public debate continue to be considered by Members.

Although the reforms are still being implemented, the Council has reviewed its own processes to align with this approach. This page provides information on how decisions are made, including delegated decisions, Member call-ins and quarterly decision statistics.

This approach reflects the Council’s commitment to proportionate, evidence-based planning decisions in the public interest.

Call-in Requests (for members): Planning Applications - Elected Members Call-in form – Fill in form. Call-ins must be justified by material planning reasons.
