New chance to comment on the current planning applications for the Town Hall redevelopment: deadline 26 October 2023

We’ve made some changes to the previously approved plans for the redevelopment of the Town Hall on St Mary's. We’re now re-consulting the public on the amended plans.

We’re aware of a high level of public interest in the plans for the redevelopment of the Town Hall. The Local Planning Authority cannot treat comments made on social media as formal planning representations. However, there is still time to make a formal representation on the amended plans before they are considered by Councillors at Full Council. You now have until Thursday, 26 October 2023 to submit comments formally.

The amended plans, including images of the proposals, can be viewed on the planning pages of the Council website at the following links:

Application for the upgrade and extension of the Town Hall: P/23/047/COU

Application for listed building consent: P/23/048/LBC

The above planning applications are amendments to the original scheme that was previously approved in 2022. The most recent amendments, prompting this further re-consultation, to this amended scheme, were published on our website in October and are described as: “inclusion of detailed elevations showing the works to the rear of Parade Cottage, re-roofing of Parade Cottage outbuilding and increase in size of east side extension to close gap to the outbuilding.” The Local Planning Authority can therefore accept further comments on this until 26 October 2023.

Please be aware that only comments submitted via the formal planning process can be taken into account by the planning department and presented to Councillors prior to their decision at Full Council. Only material planning considerations can be taken into account in deciding a planning application. The Local Planning Authority is unable to accept anonymous representations: you will be required to provide your name and address.

What is a ‘material planning consideration?’

A material planning consideration is something which is relevant to making the planning decision, for example whether to grant or refuse an application for planning permission. Examples of material planning considerations can be found on the Planning Portal website. Further guidance on the process and expectations on planning performance and decision making can be found on GOV.UK
