The Council has revised its Social Housing Allocations Policy and Housing Prioritisation Assessment. You can read the new policy in full on the housing pages of our website.
The revised policy was approved at Full Council on 25 June 2025 following a 12-week public consultation. You can read the consultation feedback and the Council report explaining the changes made to the policy and prioritisation assessment on the committee pages of our website.
Cllr Tim Dean, Lead Member for Housing and Corporate Estate, said: “I’d like to thank everyone who contributed their views to the consultation on the revised Social Housing Allocations Policy and Housing Prioritisation Assessment. These perspectives were vital in enabling us to shape the policy to better meet the needs of the community.
I know how deeply you all care about housing on the islands, and I understand the extent of the impact these decisions can have on the lives of individual residents. If you are interested in how your Councillors made the decision to approve the new policy, I encourage you all to watch the Full Council recording (item 12 from time mark 50:45) and read the accompanying papers available at the links above, as they explain the reasoning for the changes made. I hope you agree that your Councillors acted in the best interests of the community as a whole by approving the new policy and that, whether you support the new policy or not, you continue to engage with your Councillors and the housing team so policy can continue to evolve in line with community need.”
