Homelessness

You may be at risk of becoming homelessness if you:

- Are likely to become homeless within the next 56 days

- Have received a valid notice to quit (Section 21 notice - this means your landlord is ending your tenancy)

- Have received a notice that landlord requires possession of accommodation which expires within 56 days

 

The Council is able to assist you in a couple of ways. We can talk with your landlord or family members/friends you are currently living with, help you find alternative accommodation, signpost you to agencies that can assist if you are at of becoming homelessness. 

If you are at risk of homelessness, please fill out the Homelessness Application Form. This form will inform us of your situation and allow us to determine if you are eligible under the Council's Care of Duty. If you are not already on the Social Housing Register, please fill out the Housing Application Form and submit then together.  

If you are required to register on our system we will contact you and you may need to provide the following supporting documents and information:

1. Proof of identity (e.g. passport, driving licence)

2. Contact details for the landlord/excluder

3. Birth Certificates (if relevant)

4. Proof of any benefits or income

5. Recent bank statements

 

After we have spoken to you, and the Homelessness Application form has been filled out the Housing Officer will review your case and determine if you meet the Council's Duty of Care. If you qualify for the Council's Duty of Care, the Housing Officer will work with you to make a Personalised Housing Plan. We will try and help you secure a six month assured short hold tenancy in the private or social rented sector.
