Assistive technology is any product designed to offer independence for disabled and older people.
Some of this technology, which includes the Lifeline Alarm, is known as Telecare. These include a range of technological devices such as alarms and detectors to support people and their carers to help in everyday living. These devices can range from a simple pill reminder to fall detection alerts. These helpful devices can help prevent people going into hospital or residential care. Visit AskSARA.dlf.org.uk for more information on Telecare and aids to help you in the home.
Lifeline Alarms
A Lifeline alarm is a pendant alarm in your home, which when pressed, contacts a response centre to notify the service that you need help. A lifeline alarm service can contact the emergency services, and arrange for a GP, district nurse, next of kin, or named key holder to visit or help you.
Help is available at the press of a button whenever you need it 24 hours a day, every day of the year, which will help you remain living independently in your own home.
Lifeline alarms are a valuable source of help for people of any age. Many people can benefit from the service, including people with long-term health needs, disabilities, restricted mobility, who live alone or who have special needs of any kind.
Who provides it?
You can rent this equipment from Alfi (Assisted Living for Independence) Lifeline which is a Cornwall Council service and to apply use the link Cornwall.gov.uk/lifeline or download the application form here.
You can also contact by email to asc@scilly.gov.uk to make your referral for a Lifeline Alarm and we will post an application form out to you.
The installation of a Alfi Lifeline Alarm can take up to 10 working days, however we endeavour to complete sooner. If your application is of an urgent nature we aim to get an installation organised within 48 hours.
Before we can carry out an installation it is vital that you have a working BT point and an available 13 amp socket within 9 feet of each other.
It is important to note that due to health and safety regulations we are unable to trail wires across the floor or doorways.
The Installation visit should take no longer than 45 minutes. The alarm unit itself is very easy to install and only requires a BT telephone point as well as a 13 amp power socket close by.
At the installation visit we will install the unit for you, demonstrate how the system works and what to do should you need any help or assistance.
We will also ask you to sign a service agreement, confirming that you want to rent the lifeline alarm.
