Concessionary Boat Scheme

Boat Pass

Boat Passes are a discretionary concession to ensure off-island residents can reach vital services mainly available on St Marys. Each year eligible residents receive a total of 52 single fare vouchers.

Persons must be of state pensionable age or meet one of the disability criteria to join the concessionary boat pass scheme (you can check your SP age by visiting https://www.gov.uk/state-pension-age)

  1. Each eligible person is entitled to 52 single tickets. If you run out of the 52 tickets before the end of the financial year, you may request more and these will be issued in groups of 8.

  1. To join you must be a resident on one of the off-islands 10 months or more of a year.

  2. Vouchers are valid on standard single journeys between your island of residence and St. Mary’s or return, when accessing services (health appointments, the library, Queen Elizabeth II Community Sports Hall, Normandy Swimming Pool, Memory Café, visiting friends and family, shopping, collecting prescription medicines and more).

  3. To apply, simply complete the online form (link below) or fill out a paper copy and send it to Adult Social Care, Council of the Isles of Scilly, Carn Gwaval, St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly, TR21 0NA. You only have to fill out the form once.

  1. If you have any queries at all, please do not hesitate to contact Adult Social Care Department on  01720 424470 or email asc@scilly.gov.uk

Health Pass

Health passes are available to residents of the off-island community in order to support access to health appointments on St Mary’s which fall outside of the times covered by regular boat journeys.  Up to 4 ‘Health Passes’ can be issued a year and are valid towards a special trip up to the value of £25 each.

Please contact concessionary travel (see details below) with your request for a Health Pass providing your health appointment details. Upon approval you can choose to have your Health Pass sent via email to print and hand to your local boat provider, have the pass issued straight to your boat provider or sent via email or Royal Mail to your home address.

Please book your travel with either Tresco Boat Services or St. Agnes Boating at a time that suits your needs. You can then contact Adult Social Care to issue the health pass by either calling 01720 424470 or emailing concessionary@scilly.gov.uk. If the cost of the journey is less than this amount the Council of the Isles of Scilly will be charged for this amount only, no ‘change’ will be given.
