Phase 2 of Climate Adaptation Scilly is due to start in 2026. Phase 2 will be funded by £1.4M of Environment Agency Grant in Aid (GiA) funding.
The following works are planned to be delivered, subject to funding and technical suitability:
- Raising the embankment at Periglis (St Agnes)
- Embankment at Green Bay (Bryher)
- Drainage works at The Green (Bryher)
- Demountable sea defences at Periglis (St Agnes)
- Additional demountable sea defences at Porthcressa (St Mary’s)
Planning permission has already been granted for the embankment works at Periglis and Green Bay. An Environmental Impact Assessment has been completed for these works. This can be found on the linked planning pages.
The proposed drainage works on Bryher, and the demountable sea defences on St Agnes and St Mary’s, are yet to receive the necessary consents, permissions and approvals.
Drop-In Events
Throughout early 2026, the Council will be carrying out some drop-in events on Phase 2 of the project. The first 2 of these will be on St Agnes and Bryher:
Bryher Engagement Session
Date: Wednesday 4 February 2026
Time: 12:00 to 14:00
Location: Bryher Community Centre
St Agnes Engagement Session
Date: Friday 6 February 2026
Time: 12:00-14:00
Location: St Agnes Island Hall
For St Agnes, we need to bring the community up to speed with plans to complete the work to raise the embankment at Periglis which was planned for Phase 1, and to gauge current levels of support for demountable sea defences.
For Bryher, we will be seeking to establish which proposals the community as whole thinks should be prioritised following feedback received during Phase 1.
