Midpoint review of the Council’s Corporate Plan 2022-2026: read about our progress on the objectives and promises so far

The Council has completed a review of its progress against the objectives and promises set out in its Corporate Plan 2022-2026. You can read the conclusions drawn from this review, which were approved at the July meeting of Full Council, at the following link:

Corporate Plan (2022-2026) midpoint review 2024

New Corporate Plan objective

As part of the ongoing response to the exceptional circumstances relating to the recent Ofsted inspection of Children’s Social Care and the need to focus on improving the lives of children, the Council chose to add the following additional objective to the Corporate Plan:

Objective 24: Develop and implement an outcome-focussed children’s plan in response to the needs of local children and families.”

Original Corporate Plan objectives and Promises to the Community

Councillors acknowledged that the vast majority of the original objectives (20 out of 23) had been achieved or remained on course. Following discussion between Members and officers, there was recognition that 3 of the objectives would not be achievable by 2026.

Councillors also carried out a self-assessment of the 22 promises made to the community. They concluded that they had moved further away from 8 of the promises. However, they were reassured that the remaining 15 promises had been upheld or improved.

Next steps

This midpoint review of progress honours the commitment Members made to keeping the community informed about the Council’s work throughout the Corporate Plan period when the plan came into effect in April 2022. This is an important milestone in the life of the plan as it enables the Council to refocus on the work to be completed over the next 2 years.

Cllr Marcus, the Councillor leading on the Council’s Corporate Plan development process said: “When we asked for the community’s help creating the Corporate Plan, we promised that we would update everyone on our progress, which is why we are drawing your attention to the midpoint review.

We, and the community, should be extremely proud of having achieved so many of our objectives in only 2 years. There are some objectives which will require additional work over the next 2 years. There are also some projects which we have been unable to progress and are now, sadly, unlikely to be prioritised between now and March 2026 for reasons explained in the review.

I really encourage anyone interested in the work of the Council to have a read of the midpoint review documents and discuss the findings with your Councillors. This is an excellent opportunity to let us know where you agree or disagree with our assessments and make us aware of anything you think should be considered for inclusion in the next Corporate Plan in 2026. Thank you all for your help and support so far.”

Paper copies of the midpoint review documents will be made available to view at various locations in the coming weeks, including:

  • St Mary’s Library
  • Carn Gwaval Wellbeing Centre
  • Community halls and/or post offices across the islands
